 Selective Rack
This is the industry standard configuration of pallet rack. It provides access to every pallet at all times. Product can be stored and retrieved in any order (eg. first in - first out, first in - last out). It also offers a fair to good storage density depending on the type of lift truck used to service the system. |

 Drive In / Drive Thru
A drive in /drive thru system offers you the best product density of any of the systems. However there are some limitations. Drive in rack offers the highest amount of pallet positions. Typically installed with the back of the system against a building wall, it is only a first - in, last - out system. Drive thru offers a similar density but requires an aisle on both ends of the system for access. This type of configuration can be both a first in - first out and a first in - last out system. Specific lift truck specifications are required. |

 Push Back or Pallet Flow
Very similar to drive in / drive thru, push back is has a high storage density. In a pallet flow system, each pallet is loaded from the back of the system or a loading aisle, and flows forward to a picking aisle. This type of system is only a first in - first out system. Push back systems are both loaded and picked from the front of the rack. Each pallet is loaded on to it's own carridge and is pushed backward when a new pallet is loaded. When picked the next pallet flows forward into position. Specific lift truck specifications are required. |
